For over 30 years, the Medicare program has paid physicians and other Part B providers according to the Physician Fee Schedule (PFS). PFS payments are made on a fee for service basis to physicians and other provider types in a variety of settings, including in physician offices, hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs), ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs), nursing facilities, outpatient dialysis facilities, and clinical laboratories.
