OIG: Medicare and Beneficiaries Paid $245 Million in 2019 for Admission-Related Outpatient Services Not Covered by DRG Window Policy

Medicare and beneficiaries in 2019 paid hospitals that belong to affiliated groups $168 million and $77 million, respectively, for admission-related outpatient services that, if they had been delivered at wholly owned settings, would have been covered by Medicare's diagnosis related group (DRG) window policy and would not have been paid separately, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) said in a recent report.
