COVID-19 Lab Tests Drove 4.2% Increase in Medicare Spending, OIG Finds

Medicare Part B spending on clinical diagnostic laboratory tests in 2020 increased 4.2%, from $7.7 billion in 2019 to $8 billion in 2020, driven by $1.5 billion in new spending on COVID-19 tests, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) said in a January 5 report.
