The 340B Drug Discount Program (the 340B Program, 340B, or the Program) is a federal scheme that allows certain providers to purchase prescription drugs from drug manufacturers at low prices. When enacted in 1992, Congress intended the 340B Program to reduce the price of outpatient drugs for safety-net health care providers and allow them to stretch their limited resources in underserved and rural areas.
