Health law as a legal specialty is arguably as broad as the businesses and industry it supports. To illustrate the scope and the scale of this industry, in 2022, the money spent on health care in the United States accounted for 17.3% of Gross Domestic Product for a total of $4.5 trillion or the equivalent of $13,493 per person. Health law is rare because its practitioners are also consumers of health care services and caregivers of other health care consumers. It is an industry that we encounter as patients and guardians in our personal lives as well as advocates and representatives in our professional ones.
