Congratulations to the recipient of the 2026 Patricia T. Meador Leadership Award.

Gary W. Herschman is a Shareholder at Baker Donelson. He has been an AHLA member and practiced health care law for more than 30 years, focusing on mergers, acquisitions, private equity partnerships, and joint ventures. He advises physician practices, hospitals, health systems, and investors on transactions ranging from $5 million to more than $250 million, including billion-dollar agreements. He serves as co-chair of Baker Donelson’s Health Care Transactions Team and has chaired AHLA’s Fraud & Abuse Practice Group. He regularly speaks at health care industry conferences and writes on transaction trends affecting physicians and health care organizations nationwide. Gary received his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and his B.A. from Lafayette College, and is listed in Chambers USA, Band 1, and Best Lawyers in America for Health Care Law.

Gary remains an active member of the Fraud & Abuse Practice Group. In 2010 he joined the Practice Group’s Enforcement Committee and was active in preparing thought leadership on fraud and abuse issues. He served for six years as a Vice Chair of the Practice Group, where he spearheaded the creation of the first Stark Law toolkit. He also served as Chair of the Practice Group. Gary has been an active educator and speaker at AHLA conferences and webinars for decades.
