FDA Approves First At-Home, Self-Swab Coronavirus Test Kit

  • April 22, 2020

The AP (4/21, Perrone) reports the FDA on Tuesday approved “the first coronavirus test that allows people to collect their own sample at home, a new approach that could help expand testing options in most states.” The new “test from LabCorp will initially only be available to health care workers and first responders under a doctor’s orders.” In order to receive a test from LabCorp, people are initially screened at home with an online questionnaire. LabCorp “said it will make the test,” which will cost $119, “available in the coming weeks.” These kits, however, “will not be available in Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island,” all of which “have laws prohibiting testing with at-home kits.”
