OCR Seeking Public Input on the Role of “Recognized Security Practices” in HIPAA Enforcement

The Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is asking stakeholders for input on how to weigh an organization’s existing security practices when determining what enforcement action to take for noncompliance with the Health and Insurance Portability Act (HIPAA), according to a Request for Information (RFI) published in the April 6 Federal Register (87 Fed. Reg. 19833).
