Amid a global pandemic, which has led to the largest nursing shortage in decades, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced in a January 7, 2022 Quality Safety & Oversight (QSO) memorandum that additional information about nursing home staffing was being added to the Care Compare refresh—namely, weekend nurse staffing levels and nursing home staff turnover.[4] These updates also will affect the Five-Star Quality Rating calculations starting this summer.
