U.S. Court in California Allows RICO, ERISA Claims Against Cigna, MultiPlan Alleging Underpayment Scheme

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California refused September 2 to dismiss a putative class action alleging Cigna Health and Life Insurance Company and MultiPlan, Inc. engaged in a scheme to underpay claims for mental health services in violation of the Employee Retirement and Income Security Act (ERISA) and the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).
