OIG Finds Gaps in CMS’ Oversight of Hospital Preparedness for Emerging Infectious Diseases

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) limited authority over accredited hospitals hampered the agency’s ability to ensure they continued to provide quality care and operate safely during the COVID-19 public health emergency, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) said in a June 28 report.
