Risk Adjustment—2027 Final Rate Notice for Medicare Advantage and Part D

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently finalized the Calendar Year (CY) 2027 Medicare Advantage and Part D Rate Announcement (the Announcement), establishing updated payment policies and methodological changes applicable to Medicare Advantage (MA) and Part D plans. The Announcement includes, among other things, targeted technical changes affecting how diagnoses are identified and incorporated into risk adjustment models. The Announcement furthers the agency’s ongoing efforts to reshape risk adjustment policy but stops short of finalizing more expansive model changes proposed earlier in the rulemaking cycle.
