OIG: 23 States Allowed Unenrolled Providers to Serve Medicaid Beneficiaries

Contrary to federal requirements, as of December 31, 2018, 23 states had not enrolled all providers serving Medicaid beneficiaries in their respective Medicaid programs, exposing them to potentially harmful providers that hadn’t been screened for fraud, waste, and abuse, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) said in a report released April 1.
