Data Breach Results in $6.85 Million HIPAA Settlement for Premera Blue Cross

Health insurer Premera Blue Cross paid $6.85 million to the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) to resolve potential violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy and Security Rules for a data breach that affected more than 10.4 million current and former members and employees, the agency announced September 25.
