OIG Allows Physician-Owned Device Company

An arrangement where certain physicians have an ownership interest in a medical device company that manufactures products that may be ordered by the physician owners and a physician spouse of one of the owners is not a suspect physician-owned distributorship, or POD, as described in a 2013 Special Fraud Alert, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) said in an advisory opinion posted April 25.
