California Supreme Court Rejects Physician’s Challenge Alleging Hearing Officer Financial Bias, Clarifies Whether Prospect of Future Work May Be Disqualifying

The California Supreme Court issued August 12 a decision to resolve a split in the lower courts about whether a hearing officer’s prospect of future work from the same or an affiliated hospital network can be a “direct financial benefit” that requires disqualification under the state’s peer review statute.
