Pain Management Practice Owner Sentenced to Prison in Subsys Kickback Scheme

Howard Hoffberg, M.D. was sentenced to eight months in federal prison, followed by one year of supervised release, for conspiracy to violate the Anti-Kickback Statute in connection with a scheme to accept payments from a pharmaceutical company in exchange for prescribing Subsys—a fentanyl-based drug, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron announced February 24.
