U.S. Court in Washington Certifies Class Against BCBS of Illinois Alleging Discriminatory Exclusion of Gender-Affirming Care

The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington agreed November 9 to certify a class of as many as 1,740 individuals in an action alleging that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois (Blue Cross) violated Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by administering a discriminatory exclusion of gender-affirming care in self-funded health care plans.
