OIG Allows Use of Preferred Hospital Network for Medigap Policies

In the latest of a long line of opinions regarding use of a "preferred hospital" network as part of Medicare Supplemental Health Insurance (Medigap) policies, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General indicated in an advisory opinion posted July 19 that it would not impose sanctions on an insurer providing a premium credit of $100 off the next renewal premium to policyholders who use a network hospital for an inpatient stay.
