OIG Won’t Sanction Medigap Plan for Use of Preferred Hospital Network

The Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) in an advisory opinion posted September 20 once again ruled out sanctions in connection with a proposed arrangement in which a Medicare Supplemental Health Insurance (Medigap) Plan provides a premium credit of $100 off the next renewal premium to policyholders who use a network hospital for an inpatient stay.
