CMS Releases Fee Schedule Changes to Evaluation and Management and Split and Shared Visits for 2023

On November 1, 2022, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued its calendar year (CY) 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) Final Rule. This Final Rule, among other updates, established changes to regulatory billing requirements for performing and documenting Evaluation and Management (E/M) services, including split and shared E/M visits billed to Medicare. These payment policy changes established under the Final Rule became effective January 1, 2023.
