State of the Association 2024: Key Highlights and Updates

Welcome to the highlights from the State of the Association address delivered at the June 2024 Annual Membership Meeting during the AHLA Annual Meeting. Here are the key points shared during the session:

1. Strategic Plan

AHLA's new strategic plan is making a significant impact by delivering authoritative educational content and creating a professional home for all involved in health law. Our vision of a diverse health law community advancing health care is becoming a reality. For more insights, you can watch our strategic plan videos.

2. Health Law Network

The launch of the Health Law Network has transformed how our members interact. With an average of 135 monthly conversations and 25% member participation, this platform has become a vital space for knowledge exchange and professional collaboration.

3. Public Interest Efforts

This year, AHLA has produced over 170 pieces of content addressing critical public interest topics. Our Speaking of Health Law podcasts have reached a milestone of over 400,000 downloads since 2019, significantly amplifying our reach and impact.

4. Membership Growth

AHLA’s membership growth of 4% over the past year reflects our increasing influence. Our broader Health Law Community, including engaged nonmembers, has expanded by 5%, creating a more dynamic and interconnected network.

5. Educational Initiatives

We have seen an 8% increase in attendance at our programs, both virtual and in-person. New initiatives, such as the Fraud and Abuse Investigations 101 course and The Complexities of AI in Health Care, are equipping professionals with essential skills and knowledge.

6. Volunteer Resource Center

The new Volunteer Resource Center has been launched to support and enhance the experiences of our volunteers. This initiative empowers the next generation of contributors, strengthening our collective impact on the health law community.

7. Leadership Development

Our reimagined Mentoring Program, now engaging over 100 members, is nurturing the next generation of leaders. Improvements to our leadership application process ensure transparency and objectivity, fostering a diverse and inclusive leadership pipeline.

8. Awards and Recognition

AHLA’s new Awards and Recognition Program celebrates the achievements of our members. The introduction of the Michael F. Anthony Health Law Scholarship, our first endowed scholarship fund, demonstrates our commitment to supporting the education and development of future health law professionals.

These highlights reflect the significant progress we’ve made, and we look forward to continuing to serve our members and the broader health law community.

Best regards,

The AHLA Team
