Excellence in Adjunct Teaching Award Recipients
Congratulations to the recipient of the 2025 AHLA Excellence in Adjunct Teaching Award: Jorge Rivera-Agosto
Jorge Rivera-Agosto is an associate at Greenberg Traurig in New York. He focuses his practice on health care and insurance law, with an emphasis on regulatory, policy, and compliance matters. He represents clients across the health care and insurance industries, leveraging his deep experience in state government and the private sector to help clients navigate New York's complex legislative and regulatory landscape.
Jorge has wide-ranging experience in governmental affairs and policy during his tenure at the New York State Senate. He has advised on the drafting and analysis of health care and insurance legislation, served as a lead negotiator on key matters during state budget and end-of-session negotiations, and collaborated with numerous state and federal agencies on behalf of the Senate. His work has encompassed a broad portfolio, including matters related to health care, insurance, mental health, disabilities, and substance use. His governmental experience is complemented by his perspective from the insurance and hospitals sectors, where he advised senior officials on clinical pharmacy operations, general hospital operations, and complex ethical-legal matters.
Jorge develops and teaches a diverse portfolio of graduate-level courses at multiple academic institutions, including New York Medical College and Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies. His curriculum directly addresses the complex intersection of legal, ethical, and policy challenges in health care and Jorge delivers this specialized instruction to a range of students in Masters, Doctorate, and graduate nursing programs.
Jorge received his J.D. from Inter American University School of Law and a Master of Science in Bioethics from Columbia University. He has been a member of AHLA since 2017. He was the Vice Chair of Publishing for the Hospitals and Health Systems Practice Group, a participant in AHLA's Leadership Development Program, and served on the Young Professionals Council. Jorge also belongs to the New York State Bar Association, New York City Bar Associaton, American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, and the Empire State Bioethics Consortium.
