Texas Governor Sued Over COVID Long-Term Care Facility Visitation Restrictions

  • September 16, 2020

The Center Square (IL) (9/15, Blankley) reports Norred Law PLLC is suing Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, state officials, and three long-term care facilities over the governor’s executive orders and mandates to reduce coronavirus transmission. The lawsuit alleges that under the orders the facilities prevented “medical power of attorney representatives from visiting residents,” breaching the nursing homes’ contracts, resulting in elder abuse, and violating the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. The lawsuit’s arguments echo the group Caregivers for Compromise, which is seeking “to end the isolation of residents in long-term care facilities as a direct result of state COVID-19 regulations.”
