Pandemic Impacting Reliability Of Workplace Health Data As Experts Attempt To Understand Coronavirus’ Effect On Workplace Health

Bloomberg Law (6/22, Rolfsen, Subscription Publication) reports workplace health experts “are scrambling to collect reliable information on how the coronavirus is affecting workers in all industries.” Usually, the Bureau of Labor Statistics provides the raw data from which occupational safety and health specialists create recommendations and analyses, but the circumstances around the pandemic have complicated these specialists’ attempt to better understand its impact. A BLS spokesman “said that although the bureau already is gathering 2020 data, the lack of uniform information on Covid-19 cases from documents ‘will prevent consistent coding and measurement of these cases.’”
