Some PPE Received From Government Is Unusable, Nursing Homes Say

  • June 12, 2020

The Wall Street Journal (6/11, Mathews, Subscription Publication) reports some nursing homes say PPE they’ve received from the government is unusable, such as plastic gowns that don’t meet certain requirements for infection control.
Kaiser Health News (6/11, Rau) reports, “Around the country, nursing homes trying to protect their residents from the coronavirus eagerly await boxes of masks, eyewear and gowns promised by the federal government.” However, “all too often the packages deliver disappointment – if they arrive at all.” Some of the packages “contain flimsy surgical masks or cloth face coverings that are explicitly not intended for medical use,” while “others are missing items or have far less than the full week’s worth of protective equipment the government promised to send.”
