CMS To Implement New Hospital Codes To Track Use, Effectiveness Of COVID-19 Treatments In Real-Time

In a paywalled article, Inside Health Policy (7/30, Stein, Subscription Publication) reports the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) “plans to put in place new hospital procedure codes starting Aug. 1 that will allow the agency and other insurers to track the use and effectiveness of COVID-19 treatments in real-time.” The agency notified Congress on Thursday that it is “implementing new procedure codes to allow Medicare and other insurers to identify the use of the therapeutics remdesivir and convalescent plasma for treating hospital in-patients with COVID-19.”
