Nursing Home Residents Account For Over A Quarter Of Coronavirus Deaths In US, Data Indicate

The AP (6/18, Myers, Alonso-Zaldivar) reports “nursing home residents account for nearly 1 in 10 of all the coronavirus cases in the United States and more than a quarter of the deaths, according to an Associated Press analysis of government data released Thursday.” The “AP’s analysis of data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services found that nearly half of the more than 15,000 nursing homes have reported suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of June 7.” Approximately “1 in 5 facilities – or 21% – have reported deaths.”
      Bloomberg Law (6/18, Pugh, Subscription Publication) reports “the number of U.S. nursing home deaths from [COVID-19] was revised downward Thursday from nearly 32,000 on May 31 to 29,457 through the first week of June, according to” the new CMS data.
