Academic medicine has always been forward thinking with respect to clinical innovation. Therefore, it is not surprising that many teaching hospitals have recognized that telehealth solutions present opportunities to expand access to care and specialists, monitor patients post-discharge, reduce readmissions, and achieve better outcomes in value-based arrangements and models. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching hospitals were delivering care through telemedicine, digital health, virtual services, and connected care solutions, which can all be characterized as “telehealth.”
