First Reflections—Volunteer and Engage with AHLA

Pop quiz: what do Clara Barton, University of Tennessee students and alumni, and AHLA leaders have in common? The answer, of course, is that they all are volunteers! Barton served as a hospital nurse during the Civil War and founded the American Red Cross in 1881. Tennessee fans (including my beloved mother-in-law, who on most Saturdays during the fall months can be heard yelling “Get him!!!” as she watches Tennessee football games) root for their Volunteers. And AHLA leaders—like Barton—share their substantive expertise and skills without receiving monetary compensation.
