President Donald Trump’s pledge to deregulate the American economy has arrived with a bang. Within weeks of taking office, the Trump team dismantled entire agencies, fired tens of thousands of probationary employees across the government, and issued executive orders aimed at reversing what Trump called the “the inflation-driving regulatory blitz of the Biden Administration.”1 More recently, Trump fired the two Democratic Commissioners on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), leaving the agency firmly under the control of the remaining Republican commissioners and suggesting further deregulation on the horizon.
