Why Boards Should Care About DOJ’s New National Fraud Enforcement Division

Health care boards are encouraged to review their internal compliance protocols given the Department of Justice’s recent creation of the National Fraud Enforcement Division (NFED). Based on statements of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, the NFED can be expected to significantly increase the government’s antifraud enforcement activity across industry lines, with a strong focus on the health care sector. From a corporate governance perspective, this should be regarded as a significant risk management event, which merits the attention of the board of directors and, in particular, its Audit & Compliance committee.
