Administration Directs Additional $121 Million to Increase COVID-19 Vaccinations in Underserved Communities

  • July 30, 2021

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is devoting $121 million in funding from the American Rescue Plan Act to support community-based efforts to increase vaccinations in underserved areas, the agency announced July 27.

The funding, awarded through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to community-based organizations, is in addition to $125 million announced last month as part of the administration’s push to increase COVID-19 vaccination rates amid surging infections across the country driven by the highly transmissible Delta variant.

"This community-based COVID-19 vaccine outreach program will make it possible to reach people in vulnerable and medically underserved communities and help reduce disparities in COVID-19 vaccination rates," said Acting HRSA Administrator Diana Espinosa.
