OIG Nixes Medical Device Company Proposal to Pay Referral Sources' Screening Fees

A medical device company's proposal to pay for screening and monitoring services—costs its customers otherwise would incur—would generate prohibited remuneration under the federal Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS) and constitute grounds for the imposition of sanctions, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) said in an advisory opinion posted June 20.
