OIG Report Casts Doubt on Efficacy of Nursing Home Special Focus Facility Program

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS’) Special Focus Facility (SFF) program–which is aimed at addressing quality problems at the nation’s poorest-performing nursing homes—is not working because most nursing homes don’t retain the improvements they made over the long term, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) said in a report posted October 29.
