OIG Approves Free Orthodontic Treatment for Certain Patients

A pediatric dental and orthodontic services provider may pursue a program to offer free services for up to three patients per year, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) said in an advisory opinion issued May 1. While noting the arrangement implicated both the Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS) and the Beneficiary Inducements CMP, OIG issued the favorable advisory opinion after concluding the risk of fraud was sufficiently low.
