Biotech Testing Company Agrees to $49 Million False Claims Settlement

Progenity, Inc., a San Diego-based biotechnology company that provides molecular and diagnostic tests, has agreed to a global $49 million settlement resolving allegations that it fraudulently billed federal health care programs for prenatal tests and provided kickbacks to physicians to induce to them to order tests for their patients, Audrey Strauss, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced July 23.
