OIG Says Proposed Lease Arrangements Protected by Safe Harbors

A physician owner may enter into lease arrangements to create a centralized location for providing a range of items and services to patients with hearing loss even though the physician and the lessees could refer patients to each other because the arrangement would be protected by the safe harbors for space rental and equipment rental, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) said in an advisory opinion issued May 1.
