Effective January 1, 2022, the federal No Surprises Act contains, among other talked about provisions, a rule requiring health care providers and facilities to provide a Good Faith Estimate (Estimate) to uninsured or self-pay individuals scheduling or seeking information about services. As many behavioral health providers and facilities service these patients, this rule is of particular importance to the behavioral health community. Please note that the purpose of this summary is to provide information on the Estimate requirements, and that the Patient-Provider Dispute Resolution (PPDR) process is beyond the scope of this summary.
