Many health care providers are reliant on reimbursements under government programs, including Medicare and Medicaid. A government decision to halt such reimbursements, sometimes based upon alleged “credible allegations of fraud,” can cripple or close a provider. Adding to this burden, the typical regulatory framework for resolving such disputes is generally slow, cumbersome, and expensive; all but assuring that the leverage for resolving these issues sits with the government.
