OIG: Medicare Payment Edits Reduced Improper Payments to Acute-Care Hospitals, but Further Review Needed

Medicare inappropriately paid acute-care hospitals $39.3 million for outpatient services provided to beneficiaries who were inpatients of other facilities, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) found in a September 23 audit report.
