HHS Proposes HIPAA Security Rule Changes to Improve Health Care Cybersecurity

A proposed rule published January 6 (90 Fed. Reg. 898) would update the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) security standards for the first time in more than a decade to better safeguard electronic protected health information amid mounting concerns about cybersecurity attacks that threaten the confidentiality of patient data.
