Health care is an intensely scrutinized, heavily regulated, and extremely competitive industry. Risks surround the industry from multiple vantage points and approach through various vectors. Every hospital is immersed in a proverbial alphabet soup of regulators and accrediting bodies; its services are personally and emotionally felt and constantly scrutinized; its data is a treasure trove for cybercriminals; and its already thin margins are under constant pressure from a competitive marketplace as well as a need to fulfill a charitable mission (for tax-exempt, nonprofit institutions).
