An Overview of OIG’s Updated Health Care Fraud Self-Disclosure Protocol

On November 8, 2021, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) issued a revised protocol for persons wishing to voluntarily self-disclose self-discovered evidence of potential fraud. The Health Care Fraud Self-Disclosure Protocol (SDP), formerly the Provider Self-Disclosure Protocol, gives individuals an opportunity to settle potential exposure for penalties while also avoiding costs and disruptions normally associated with a government investigation and civil or administrative litigation.
