AHLA Announces 2022 Call for Leaders: Board of Directors, Nominating Committee, Practice and Affinity Groups, Program Planning Committees, Review Boards, Councils, and Fellows

  • November, 16, 2021

AHLA announces their 2022 “Call for Leaders.” The Association administers an annual call for leaders for their Practice and Affinity Groups, Review Boards, Committees and Councils, Fellows, and new Directors to serve on AHLA’s Board. Members may self-nominate or nominate a colleague for these prestigious positions.

AHLA has a tradition of members sharing their expertise and insight with each other. Members who give to each other through speaking, writing and other service to the organization are recognized and often asked to participate in one of the many leadership positions available.

“Our volunteers are the lifeblood of this Association, allowing us to educate and connect the health law community in countless ways,” comments Kerry B. Hoggard, AHLA’s Vice President of Membership, “We encourage all of our volunteers to consider applying for a leadership position and grow their contributions within the health law community.”

Board of Directors

AHLA is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of 23 board members. The Board of Directors typically meets twice a year in person and several times virtually. Board members serve on a variety of Committees including education, finance, and membership and commit to serving at least one three-year term. Terms of Directors are staggered so there may be more or fewer openings available in any given year.

The submission deadline for applications to serve on the Board of Directors is December 10, 2021. For more information on AHLA’s Board Recruitment and Selection Process, please visit the AHLA website.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee, chaired by AHLA’s President, is responsible for the selection process for Directors and the President-Elect Designate. An appointment is for a one-year term, effective July 1, 2022 through May 31, 2023. While serving as an at-large member, the appointed member agrees to be disqualified from any nomination during their term.

The submission deadline for applications to serve as an at-large member of the Nominating Committee is December 10, 2021 For more information on AHLA's Nominating Committee's Recruitment and Selection Process, please visit the AHLA website.

Fellows

The Fellows Program has grown to be a collection of some of AHLA’s most talented and illustrious members. Fellows have distinguished themselves both in the practice of their health law knowledge and skills, and in their contributions to AHLA. Selection of an AHLA member to be a Fellow is an honor and recognition for distinctive service to the health law profession generally and to AHLA specifically. The number of AHLA Fellows selected each year varies. Members can self-nominate or nominate a colleague. The Fellows Coordinating Council forwards its recommendations to the Nominating Committee; they review and submit a final slate to the Board of Directors who are responsible for electing nominees as Fellows.

Members who wish to be considered for the Fellows honor should submit their application by December 17, 2021. For more information on AHLA's Fellow Recruitment and Selection Process, please visit the AHLA website.

Practice and Affinity Groups, Review Boards, Program Planning Committees, and Councils

A Call for Leaders for AHLA’s Practice and Affinity Groups, Review Boards, Committees and Councils will be opening in mid-December. Members can self-nominate or nominate a colleague who is willing to serve. The President-Elect reviews and evaluates candidates’ applications and appoints these positions annually.

Applications for these leadership positions will be available mid-December. For more information about these positions, please visit the AHLA website.
